Revive the Borneo Football League - Netizen

After the Sabah FC Malaysia Super League football match against Kedah FC on Saturday, there will be no more football matches in two months. It will make local football fans look forward to seeing their favorite players playing on the field.

With the live broadcast of every football match that is broadcast on the UNIFI TV YouTube channel, it has boosted the number of spectators and fans who have not been aware of the latest developments of the Sabah football team.

We can see various reactions from netizens on the Sabah football scenario on social media. Some of which have suggested that the Borneo Football League be organized.

According to the sharing of one of the Sabah football fans named Fiqri Fahmi on the Sabah Supporter Club Facebook group, he suggested that the Borneo League be held in conjunction with the Malaysian Super League break two months, to find the "King of Borneo."

He added that most of the players from Borneo did not play in the Malaysian National squad. The existence of this League also maintains the stamina of Sabah FC players before the Malaysian Super League continues.

"Hopefully, there are parties who are interested in organizing this league for the sake of Borneo football," he said.

His proposal had received positive feedback from Sabah football fans and received 132 shares when this article was written.

Some netizens who filled the comment space also suggested that every district in Sabah have a team and have its stadium to realize the proposal.

"I think it would be good if the Borneo Cup tournament were held like before. With the presence of teams such as Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, North Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan, as well as Davao Philippines, it will make the Borneo League as vibrant and as great as the M League," said a netizen.

Apart from that, this League is also said to provide an opportunity for young people to showcase their talents in Sabah's football team.

According to reliable sources, the Borneo Cup was held in the 1950s or maybe even earlier, joined by North Borneo, Sarawak, and Brunei.

The Borneo Football Championship was first played by British Crown colonial officials who took over management of British North Borneo from the North Borneo Chartered Company in 1946 after the Second World War. It was then officially called the Borneo Cup in 1962.

Sabah, known as North Borneo, became the inaugural champion in 1962 and won 12 more titles from 23 editions of the Borneo Cup until 1988.

Sarawak has won six times while Brunei has won only four times. Sabah, which won the Borneo Cup in 1977, was the first team from Borneo Island to compete in the Malaysia Cup. In 1989, the Borneo Cup was abolished after the team failed to deal with the FAM to join the Pro Semi -League. Brunei won the last edition in 1988.
