A first discussion regarding the Amendment of the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation Act 1981 (Act 224) took place yesterday. The discussion was chaired by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Dato Saifuddin Abdullah and attended by officials of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM), Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (FINAS), representatives of the Attorney General's Chambers, lawyers and stakeholders from the industry.



In the discussion, two main points were agreed upon;

First, the workflow of the amendment process. It involves the determination of policies involving dealings with stakeholders (Government, industry, civil society, academics, Members of Parliament, etc.), as well as comparisons with relevant laws in other countries.



Second, the drafting of the Amendment Bill will involve several key points, namely: the position of social media users who produce shared materials within the platform, improvement of existing regulations, and provide new definitions of existing definitions is in Act 244.
